Lucky to Be In

So last night, since the local home game I play in every Thursday was canceled, I decided to play in a $20/180 Person Sit and Go on Pokerstars. I’m a big fan of these as they are basically tournaments that don’t take as long as typical Pokerstars ones with an unlimited amount of entrants. After starting the tournament with 1,500 in chips, I was down below 750 after the first hour but very fortunate to still be alive in the tournament.
The hand that crippled me went down like this. With about 1,750 in chips and the blinds at 30-60, I made it 180 with A-Q of spades. I got two callers and the flop came Qh-4s-7s. A very powerful flop for my hand. I decided to check and one of the two callers bet out 300 chips. I just called and the other player folded. The turn came the Queen of diamonds, giving me a set of Queens with top kicker and an ace-high flush draw. I decided again to check, hoping to get another bet out of him but he checked behind. The river came the 4 of diamonds, giving me a full house Queens over fours. The way the hand played out I didn’t really think he had much of anything so I tried to come up with an amount that he might call if he had an Ace (for two pair with Ace high), a 7 (two pair Queens and Sevens), or a 4 (lower full house). I decided to bet 600 chips, which was a little more than half the pot. He called and turned over… 4-4! How could he just call my river bet with quads! There was no way I could put him on that hand and he could have easily taken all of my chips. Regardless, I was very happy to still be in the tournament and ended up reaching the final table, coming in third for a cash of about $430
